Brown Cow Salon

About Us

Malika Jennings opened the salon in 2006 being a silent partner, offering mostly tanning and limited beauty treatments. In 2008 Malika took sole ownership of the salon and brought in Katie McCarthy to take over as manager, bringing her knowledge of spa treatments and overall client care that the salon took a new turn. Working more with Malika and her business knowledge and Katie's salon experience they soon turned the salon into a lot more and Brown Cow standards were far above the rest around.

Kerrie Dobson and Lauren Barlow soon joined the team bringing different qualities with them. This started the foundation of the Brown Cow Salon many know and love today.

It soon became clear the salon was desperately in need of more space with the continuous growth of clientele. In 2009 the extension of Brown Cow opened offering double the space. It was then hair styling at the salon started as well as 3 state of the art spray tanning rooms and two spa rooms, one of which is the increasingly popular dual room, great for 2 people wanting to share the pampering experience.

Today the salon has 10 qualified and experienced therapists all bringing a different role to the salon, with 6 beauty therapists and 3 hair stylists Brown Cow Salon is the best place to be with all your tanning, beauty, spa and hair needs under one roof. As a client you deserve the best and Brown Cow works toward giving you this. If it's an eyebrow shape or a full day pamper package we aim to please you.

Lauren Barlow

Lauren Barlow of Brown Cow Salon

My name is Lauren Barlow. I have been a beauty therapist for 6 years I started studying beauty therapy at Bolton College when I left school at 16 and was there for 3 years. I gained qualifications for level's 2 and 3 in beauty therapy and NVQ level 3 in nail services. Once I left college I started working for a local spa where I gained further training in more advanced facial and body treatments. I worked there for 18 months before leaving to join the Brown Cow Salon.

Working at Brown Cow Salon is hard work as we do get so busy but because I enjoy my job and we have a good team it makes it worthwhile. My favourite aspects of my job are making clients feel better about themselves and doing more of the cosmetic treatments such as waxing, acrylic nails, spray tans and eyelash extensions.

Kerrie Dobson

Kerrie Dobson of Brown Cow Salon

Hi my name is Kerrie Dobson, I have been in the beauty industry for 6 years, I started studying at Bolton Community College at 16. I studied at college for 3 years in which I developed the skills and knowledge to become qualified in NVQ level 2 and 3 beauty therapy, I then went on to expand my knowledge and did level 3 nail services. I was offered a job in a local salon working part time to start which lead to full time. This gave me the opportunity to develop and learn more as a therapist. We offered varied treatments that I had to take further training in which gave me much more confidence as a therapist. I worked at the salon for 18months.

Then I was given the chance to become a member of Brown Cow. It was very exciting to see the development of a salon with limited beauty treatments available to expanding double the size and over treble on clientele as we now use the size to its full potential and offer a lot more treatments.

I find helping people to relax and unwind whilst having treatments done is beneficial for my client and myself, as I thoroughly enjoy putting "that smile back upon their faces".

My favourite treatment and which I find as my strongest point although I am qualified in all aspects of beauty is acrylic nails. I love to see my clients face as I develop their nails, I find it rewarding as their expression change into a smile when they see the end result.

I enjoy working at Brown Cow Salon and alongside the 9 other therapists that I work with. I wish to see the salon expand and develop into much more in the future as well as keeping the high standard that we all believe in.

Charlotte Drabble

Charlotte Drabble of Brown Cow Salon

My name is Charlotte Drabble I am 19 years old. I left Turton 6th form and chose to go into beauty therapy at Blackburn College in September 2009 as an apprentice. I joined the girls at Brown Cow Salon in August 2009 as a trainee and now work full time. As an apprentice it gives me the opportunity to learn my new skills at college and use them in the salon straight away.

Working at the salon has given me so much confidence and opportunities, meeting new clients, working with the other therapists to learn new treatments and practice so I can perform treatments on my own.

The first thing I learnt was spray tanning and now I even have requests off clients for me to do them. I am continuously gaining more confidence and love making clients feel good about themselves. I aim to continue gaining more qualifications and expanding my knowledge of Brown Cow treatments.

Jemma Orr

My name is Jemma Orr. I've been working in the beauty industry for the last 5 years. I joined Brown Cow doing mostly spray tans and reception duties. I enjoy making clients feel good and saw first hand how rewarding for a therapist it is. So I wanted to extend my knowledge of different beauty treatments so I enrolled at Bolton College in 2009 working at NVQ level 2, gaining more confidence with both clients and different treatments.

I am now able to do a lot more at the salon offering different treatments, we offer so much at brown cow that we do get very busy but we all make sure we provide the best possible treatment every time.

Natasha North

Natasha North of Brown Cow Salon

Hi my name is Natasha North I have been doing hair dressing for the past 9 years. I started working in a busy salon environment when I was 15. I did most of my training in the salon as well as various colleges where I achieved different skills. I specialise in wedding hair and hair designs, being part of someone's big day is so rewarding and the fulfilling that it makes the job worthwhile.

Since coming to Brown Cow Salon I have continued with learning more skills to give my client the best possible outcome. We are a busy salon but aim to listen to your needs and give you the most possible out of your treatment weather it be a trim or a full re-style. Please don't hesitate to book in for a free hair consultation with me or any other of the stylists.

Chantelle Wright

Chantelle Wright of Brown Cow Salon

My name is Chantelle Wright. I started hairdressing officially in 2004 when I left school to do a full-time course in NVQ levels 1, 2 and 3 hairdressing. However the passion for hairdressing started at a young age as through school I would practice by doing hair ups etc. on friends and family and at 15 years old I got my first job in a busy salon working as a junior. I kept this job whilst attending the first 2 years at college and also started a second job volunteering in another salon to learn from different people sharing their enthusiasm for a successful business.

Other qualifications and things I have learnt to improve services throughout my career would be attending shows and demonstrations and extra courses. The shows I have attended have taught me high fashion techniques in which I have learnt from some of the best celebrity stylists in England and America such as Lee Stafford, who you may of heard of. In 2007 I also did a course and learnt how to fully apply Balmain Hair Extensions, which can be used for added length, added thickness and added colour, or all of the above with a semi permanent effect.

I came to Brown cow in 2009 to hopefully learn more about my career and offer my services to a larger clientele. I enjoy making people feel good about themselves as that's what is so fulfilling about my job and most important to me.

Rachael Irlam

Rachael Irlam of Brown Cow Salon

My name is Rachael Irlam. I started at Brown Cow Salon in 2007. Working just on Saturdays, as I am still at school, I have gained confidence by working closely with the other therapists and with clients.

I have enjoyed getting to know the hair and beauty industry and how a busy salon is ran. I am planning to start a hairdressing apprenticeship in September at Bolton College whilst working full time at Brown Cow Salon. This will give me the opportunity to work in a busy hairdressing salon whilst gaining the skills I need from college. Like the hair stylists already at Brown Cow I want to be able to give clients a new look and even more confidence.
